Closing fraud can involve entirely fabricated escrow offices or lookalike domains that mimic a real firm. Buyers and sellers both can be targeted for deposits or payoff wires.
Save website captures, engagement letters, wiring instructions and notary appointments. Keep any video-call recordings with the supposed closing agent.
Verify firm identity through independent directories or known referral sources. If a real firm was impersonated, notify them so they can warn other clients and assist banks.
Map every payment already sent. Partial deposits and “extra fee” requests often continue after the first diversion; stop further transfers while assembling the file.
