Gift card scams convert pressure into hard-to-reverse value. While recovery prospects are often limited, organized records still support reports and any available retailer processes.
Keep purchase receipts, card packaging, and photographed serial numbers and PINs. Save chat or call scripts that demanded payment, plus the email or number that collected the codes.
Contact the retailer or card issuer’s fraud desk quickly with serials—sometimes unused balances can be restricted. Do not assume silence means nothing can be done.
Treat any follow-up request for more cards as secondary fraud. Document it, refuse payment, and add it to the same timeline rather than starting a disconnected narrative.
