Metadata such as creation times, EXIF data and email headers can corroborate when instructions arrived and from which devices. It can also expose edited or recycled images.
Export original files rather than messaging-app recompressions when possible. Re-saved images often strip useful metadata.
Align timestamps across time zones. A chat in one zone and a bank debit in another frequently creates false gaps that careful conversion resolves.
Do not alter files to “clean them up” before legal review. Edits create authenticity disputes that distract from the substantive trail.
