Romance-investment and “pig butchering” schemes typically blend long social engineering with fake trading platforms. Victims often hold months of chat history, voice notes and deposit instructions that become the spine of the case file.
Export full conversation threads before accounts are banned or deleted. Capture profile identifiers, phone numbers, wallet addresses used for deposits, URLs of purported trading sites and any “account manager” contacts who demanded further payments.
Bank and crypto statements showing repeated top-ups are essential. So are screenshots of fabricated portfolio balances—courts and compliance teams need to see how the illusion was maintained, not only the final loss amount.
Secondary fraud is common after the primary loss: fake recovery agents, lawyers or tax officials demanding fees. Document those contacts separately and do not send additional funds while assembling a review package for counsel.
