RECOVERY INSIGHT

SWIFT gpi tracking references in wire investigations

Using gpi and UETR-style references to follow cross-border wires through correspondent banks.

SWIFT gpi and related tracking references can show which banks touched a cross-border payment and when status updates occurred. Those breadcrumbs guide notice targets.

Ask your bank for the UETR or gpi tracking details, intermediary BICs and any rejection or return messages. Save PDFs of tracking screens rather than relying on verbal updates.

When a payment shows as credited to a beneficiary bank, timely fraud notice to that institution becomes more concrete. Tracking alone does not freeze funds, but it focuses outreach.

If tracking stops mid-corridor, note the last known bank and timestamp for counsel. Gaps often indicate where formal disclosure or correspondent inquiries may be needed.
